Gail Makos is a dedicated and highly accomplished healthcare professional with over four decades of experience in nursing, hypertension, nephrology, and clinical research. She began her medical career after earning a Practical Nursing Certificate from Northern Michigan University in 1981. Her academic journey continued with an Associate's Degree in Nursing from Northwestern Michigan College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oakland University. She later obtained a Master’s of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner, solidifying her expertise in comprehensive patient care. Gail’s career has been marked by a commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care, with notable contributions to the fields of hypertension and chronic kidney disease management.
Throughout her career, Gail has served in various respected institutions, including Sparrow Hospital, Munson Medical Center, and Henry Ford Hospital, where she took on roles from Licensed Practical Nurse to Nurse Associate II in hypertension and nephrology. Her extensive research contributions include serving as Project Director for the NIH-funded Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) study, co-investigating numerous clinical trials, and co-authoring significant publications. A dedicated educator, Gail has held numerous preceptorships across prominent Michigan universities and served as a clinical educator. Her work has advanced the understanding and management of chronic kidney disease and hypertension, earning her recognition within the American Society of Hypertension and other professional communities.
Gail is now pursuing a certification in functional medicine to accompany her extensive knowledge in traditional medicine. She is passionate about giving people natural solutions for better health. This combination of a functional + traditional mindset, makes her an ideal practitioner for everyone.
