Not all IV clinics follow the same preparation standards. In this week’s video, we explain USP 797 sterile compounding guidelines, what a compounding hood actually is, and why sterile preparation matters when something is going directly into your bloodstream.

Key Takeaways:

• USP 797 guidelines establish sterile compounding standards for IV infusions

• Properly prepared infusions should be made in a sterile hood environment

• Sterile preparation helps reduce contamination risk from bacteria, mold, and particulate matter

• IVs mixed on countertops may not meet sterile compounding guidelines

• Michigan Immune Defense utilizes a compounding hood for client safety and clinical quality

All right, let's think about this.

If you believe restaurants should be held to standards for the food they put in your body, then shouldn't IV clinics also be held to standards for what they put directly into your bloodstream?

Well, guess what? They are. It's called USP797 guidelines. These are sterile compounding standards that outline how IV infusions are supposed to be prepared. In simple terms, any sterile infusion being made with injectable ingredients should be prepared in something called a compounding aseptic isolator or more simply a hood.

What does that mean? It means the infusion is required to be prepared in a controlled sterile environment designed to reduce the risk of particulate matter, bacteria, mold, or other contamination from getting into the infusion before it enters your bloodstream.

So, if a clinic is making infusions on the countertop directly in front of you, they're not following the compounding guidelines.

At Michigan Immune Defense, we've been utilizing a hood for years. All of our infusions are prepared this way for client safety, sterility, and the best clinical outcomes.

Because if standards mattered for what goes into your stomach, they should definitely matter for what goes directly into your bloodstream. Think about it.
